Namdo Ilbo Editorial - Welcome to the establishment of the secondary battery electric cycle industry system
It is said that an investment agreement has been reached that can mark a milestone in the development of high-tech industries in the Jeonnam region.
Jeonnam-do recently signed an investment agreement worth KRW 320 billion with two companies that complete a virtuous cycle self-sufficiency system in the field of general secondary battery manufacturing plants and electric vehicle battery materials.
When this project is completed, Jeonnam will be able to lay the foundation for building an industrial system for the entire cycle of secondary batteries, including material infrastructure such as cathode materials, lithium, and oil extraction in the Gwangyang Bay area, a test evaluation center being built in Naju, and production of finished products.
LCM Energy Solutions Co., Ltd., a new corporation headquartered in Naju, will invest 200 billion won on a 35,000㎡ site in the innovative industrial complex to establish a manufacturing plant for finished secondary battery batteries such as marine and portable energy storage devices by 2023. Through a differentiated supply chain such as military supply, it is possible to compete with world-class battery manufacturers by leading exports as well as stable corporate operation. In particular, it decided to contribute to the development of the high-tech industry in Jeonnam by establishing a research institute along with new employment of 250 people.
POSCO HY Clean Metal Co., Ltd., a joint venture between POSCO and China’s Huayou Cobalt, which has world-class technology in the field of mineral mining and refining, plans to build a factory to extract valuable metals such as nickel, cobalt, manganese, and lithium on a 170,000㎡ site in the Yulchon Industrial Complex 1 by 2022. new in July A project cost of 120 billion won is invested. The expected number of employees is about 200 people.
Valuable metals are the main raw materials for cathode materials, a key material for lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, and are expected to contribute to resource efficiency and environmental improvement as waste batteries for electric vehicles are recycled.
The first secondary battery factory in Jeonnam and the creation of an electric vehicle battery industry cluster in the Gwangyang Bay area can greatly contribute to solving the problem of eating and living for the residents.
Therefore, it is hoped that Jeonnam Province and the relevant local governments will mobilize all their administrative powers to support these two factories so that they can be completed as planned.
